How to create everyday happiness, balanced habits 9

Smile, what’s the use of crying?

You’ll find the life is still worthwhile

If you just smile

“Smile”, by Nat King Cole

Being happy is easy…

All you need to do is to 1) think and 2) act in the happy way! Focus your mind on the positive, and act in a way that transmits positive emotions.

To make your mind happy, you will need to practice thinking in a positive way. Observe your own thinking patterns, encourage the positive thoughts and discourage the negative thoughts.

  • To encourage, practice reflecting on the daily positive things
  • To discourage, cut your negative thoughts before they have a change to form

Don’t let a negative thought to finalize in your head.

“Every morning I ask myself, what I can be happy about. Every evening I reflect on a moment I felt happy that day.”

The easiest way to make yourself happy?

Smile!!! When you consciously make yourself to smile, the feeling will follow the action. Due to a mind-body connection, you can either manage your mind or body, and the other one will follow. Fake it until you make it!

By smiling, you will make yourself happy. And it affects the people around you – they will respond positively to your smile.

“While shaving, I see myself in the mirror. I smile! While changing my clothes, I see myself in the mirror. I smile again!”

How to create happiness for others?

Any way you’re interacting with the world can be a vehicle for happiness.

  • you can speak in a positive way (no complaining)
  • you can touch in a positive way (hugs are great)
  • you can make happy noises (laughing sounds and feels great).

Remember that you can laugh at anything; positive laughs for things that go right, and amused laughs for things where you do something wrong. The more that you laugh at yourself, the happier life you will have.

4 easy practices to increase your everyday happiness

  1. Happiness journaling: Every morning write down at least one thing that you can be thankful for in the coming day. Every evening write down at least one thing that made you happy that day. By continuously teaching yourself to find things to appreciate, your way of thinking will be modified. You will teach yourself to be happier!
  2. Hug your loved ones: Everybody needs physical connection. Especially the tough business professionals!! Hug your wife when you wake up, when you leave for work, when you come back, when you go to bed… and at least 5 other times per day. The physical closeness will soothe your soul, bringing you a feeling of calmness and caring.
  3. Smile more: When you see yourself in the mirror, smile! This will increase your self-acceptance. When you walk, smile!! This will make the journey more enjoyable, and you will get less tired. When you talk, smile!!! People will hear that in your voice, and will respond accordingly.
  4. Speak value-adding things: When you open your mouth, make sure that the only things that come out are truthful and helpful. The more you complain and judge, the more you teach yourself in being (and feeling) negative. Instead, focus on communicating things bring value to the world. Encourage, give feedback, build on ideas, share insights…

The lightness of living and other good stuff

  • Lightness of living – The life is meant to be lived fully, not to be worried about. The more you spend time in negativity, the heavier your world becomes. Luckily the opposite is also true… the more you practice happiness, the lighter the life feels.
  • Attracting people – You smiling and being positive sends a strong message. You are practically saying: “I accept myself / you / this life, and I love it as it is!” This kind of attitude attracts other people, because they also want to feel good about themselves. If you give them acceptance, they will want to stay around you.
  • More happiness – Your bodily reactions will follow your emotional feelings. And the other way around! Whichever you take as your focus area – positive behavior or positive thoughts & feelings – you are bound to make yourself happier. Both inside and out!

What about you? How do you make yourself happy?
